Catch the Bus Week 2014

Catch the Bus Week 2014, a week long campaign coordinated by Greener Journeys to promote bus travel, will take place again this year between the 28 April and 4 May. This year’s event will encourage motorists to try buses. Operators, passenger organisations and local authorities will be highlighting the benefits of bus travel. Participants include Arriva, Stagecoach, FirstGroup and Go-Ahead, as well as hundreds of local independents, PTEs and local authorities such as TfL, Norfolk County Council, Buckinghamshire County Council, Centro, Merseytravel, SPT and Transport for Greater Manchester. Each group will be running their own initiatives and events to engage with bus users, including ticket offers, initiatives with local charities and community events.

Chief Executive of Greener Journeys, Claire Haigh, said, ‘Buses provide vital transport links. They connect people to jobs, to education, to retail and leisure opportunities. They help reduce congestion and they are the green way to travel. Simply walking to and from the bus stop each day can help you get your ten thousand steps and improve your wellbeing. By providing access to jobs and training, getting customers to places of business, buses support the economy and economic growth. I am delighted to be launching Catch the Bus Week. It is a fantastic way to increase awareness of the many benefits buses bring to our lives and hopefully encourage those who up until now have wary of bus travel to give it a try.’
