BOOK REVIEW: The use of vinyls on buses and coaches
The use of vinyls on buses and coaches by Richard Walter is published by Amberley Publishing at £15.99. ISBN:9781398107106. Reviewed by David Cole
Having covered the development of all-over-advertising and special liveries in his previous Amberley titles, Richard Walter’s latest title looks more closely at the current use of vinyl wraps including an introduction to the design and application of the material in conjunction with Gordana Graphics of Perth. This covers the wrapping of a Lothian open-top bus for their Cobbles Tour in 2022. Around 180 images then feature the current and recent past vehicle scene across the country, showing how vinyl has facilitated the application of ever more diverse liveries, colour schemes and advertisements to vehicles.
Themed chapters include the 2022 Platinum Jubilee and the 2023 Coronation as well as marking diversity through PRIDE and promoting green policies through electric vehicles, particularly manufacturers’ demonstrators. The images are to a high standard from respected photographers and have reproduced well although the photographers’ and author’s location places a firm emphasis on activity in Scotland, London and the North-East. Their brief captions refer mainly to the vehicle type and the vinyl application. A colourful library addition for students of the current bus scene.
