BOOK REVIEW Plaxton: The Panorama and Panorama Elite years
by Howard Berry, published by Amberley Publishing, ISBN: 9781445679297, £15.99. Review by David Cole
Howard Berry has prepared a concise history of both models and chosen 180 quality images which have been well reproduced. These show vehicles at different stages of their lives across the UK working for operators large and small. Most are on AEC, Leyland, Ford or Bedford chassis but there are Bristols, Seddons, early Volvos and two unique Mercedes-Benz examples. The parallel Panorama III and IV developments on smaller Bedford chassis are also covered.
A final chapter looks at rebodies and specials like the 1971 Panorama 1 built at an operator’s request, Panoramas on BMMO chassis and the oldest chassis to carry a Panorama Elite body, a Leyland Worldmaster that started life as a Glasgow Corporation bus. Recommended, an attractive window on the coaching world of the later 20th Century.
