Baycar buses updated

Cardiff Bus has repainted and updated four of the Scania OmniCity articulated buses used on its Baycar services. They have been given new livery, leather seats and audio and visual next stop announcements in both English and Welsh. Launched in 2006, the Baycar service provides a direct connection between Cardiff Bay and Cardiff city centre. The service runs every ten minutes weekday day times and every 15 minutes at other times. The improvements are part of a wider programme of work that has seen 108 buses refurbished over the past two years. The operator has a total of 550 drivers and 230 buses in its fleet, carrying over 28m passengers and traveling 13m km every year.

Business Development Manager of Cardiff Bus, Gareth Stevens, said, ‘Our Baycar service is a very popular way of getting between the city centre and Cardiff Bay or vice versa quickly. It was, therefore, essential to refurbish these well used buses to improve their comfort, look and life. The refurbishment of these buses demonstrates our commitment to continuously improving our fleet and service and follows our latest investment in new fleet. These improvements will give our customers confidence that they will be boarding a modern, comfortable and user friendly bus. We also hope the use of next stop audio and visual announcements will enable our blind and partially sighted customers to travel more confidently and independently.’
