Award winning Rochester coach park closed

Rochester’s coach parking at Acorn Wharf closed on 10 December, with an alternative of seven bays in Whiffen’s Avenue, Chatham.

The Acorn Wharf site has been earmarked for redevelopment. The public has recently been consulted regarding a proposal to build a 15-bay coach park in Curtis Way, Rochester. This is subject to planning permission. Coaches can also use the dedicated coach set-down bays behind the Rochester Visitor Information Centre in Rochester High Street, for up to four hours, between 8am and 6pm.

The Acorn Wharf coach park with its security and coach driver rest room had won awards in the group travel industry.

This is so stupid of the council this site is central Rochester where they propose to build this coach park is a green space adjacent to homes they want to dig up and tarmac. I have lived along side this field for 35 years we have had trouble with travellers cars speeding at night and in the day motorbikes unsocial behaviour why should we have it near our homes. Medway council don’t give a toss about residents who pay their wages. We have a state of the art fire station on some of it and a hockey club this is acceptable. The junction it will use is very busy used by the fire station, bae systems and the hockey club. The esplanade would have been much better and it’s not near homes.

The land were over Strood bridge would be better and the car park behind it but this has been designated for yet more flats

  2. Andrew hendry says:

Why close it for you want passengers in the coach park was ideal to park up as usual coach drivers suffer.
