Alpine buys out Abacab

Conwy-based Abacab Coaches has been bought by Alpine Travel of Llandudno.

Abacab has a fleet of luxury coaches, specialising in private hire. The family-run company was founded in 1987. The takeover facilitates the retirement of Abacab owners, Chris and Denise Jones.

The Abacab fleet consists of five vehicles, all of which have been acquired along with its four drivers, who have moved over to Alpine and are based in its Llandudno depot. At the moment the branding on the vehicles will remain as Abacab.

Chris Jones from Abacab said: “Having dedicated the vast proportion of our professional lives growing Abacab Coaches into one of the region’s premier coach businesses, when the time came to retire, Denise and I believed that Chris and the team at Alpine would be the perfect people to continue with and maintain the excellent standards that our customers expect, while providing long term job security for our fantastic drivers.”

Chris Owens of Alpine Travel said: “Abacab has been in discussion with Alpine Travel since making the decision to retire earlier this year, and I am delighted to have been approached and look forward to continuing the excellent service they have been providing to their customers for many years.

“The Abacab staff and fleet will now be based from our Llandudno depot and for the loyal customers of Abacab they will not see a change in the excellent service they currently enjoy, but will have access to the largest independent coach tour operator in North Wales, and we hope to be able to support them with even more services.”

Founded in the market town of Llanrwst in 1972, Alpine Travel has now grown to be one of the largest independently-owned coach operators in North Wales. Since its creation Alpine Travel has adopted a policy of expansion through acquisition. In January 2017, the operator acquired Jones Holidays in Flint, which was acknowledged as North Wales’ premier coach holiday provider, having been arranging and scheduling coach holidays since 1985. Previous to this, Alpine acquired the business interests of Silver Star Holidays in Caernarfon. Alpine’s core business ethos throughout these changes has been to provide the best possible service at an affordable price, while providing long-term stable employment opportunities for local people.
