MCV opening Volvo-dedicated production line

Volvo Buses’ bodybuilding partner MCV is now opening an all-new, Volvo-dedicated special production line.

The new MCV plant produces the Volvo 7900 Electric and Electric Artic city buses, as well as the Volvo 8900 Electric for European markets.

The new facility is located at MCV’s premises outside Cairo, Egypt. MCV began producing complete Volvo electric buses in 2024, as the new site was under construction, and the first buses have already been delivered to customers in Europe. The new plant increases production capacity and enables greater flexibility in adapting vehicles to meet the needs of different markets and customers. It spans 10,000m² and the construction work has been finalised within 12 months. The first roll-outs from the new production site are expected this autumn.

MCV is one of several bodybuilders globally Volvo has partnered with to create the flexibility needed for each of its markets.

“…in the UK, MCV has been a reliable partner for over 15 years, supplying bodies for various Volvo bus models.” – Anna Westerberg, President of Volvo Buses

Anna Westerberg, President of Volvo Buses, said: “The business model to collaborate with bodybuilders for the bus body is well established in many key markets around the world. For example, in the UK, MCV has been a reliable partner for over 15 years, supplying bodies for various Volvo bus models.

“With an extended partnership with MCV, we can maintain and reinforce our standards of quality, safety, and sustainability. The new manufacturing plant combined with our joint history and ambitions to deliver the best solutions to our customers provide a solid foundation for growth,” concludes Anna Westerberg.
