UK Bus Awards 2016 – Results

After previous wins in 2004, 2012 and 2014, Nottingham City Transport scooped the prestigous UK Bus Operator of the Year title for the fourth time at the 21st annual UK Bus Awards presentation held at The Ballroom on London’s Southbank. In front of an industry audience around 650 strong, the company received the award from guest of honour Norman Baker, the former buses minister, who is Chair of Bus Users UK.

Having been named Top City Operator, Nottingham City Transport faced strong competition from Top Shire Operator, Reading Buses and Top Independent Operator, Prentice Coaches for the ultimate prize.

The Top National Bus Driver award crossed the water to the Isle of Wight, going to Dave Forrester of Southern Vectis whilst Dean Golding of Go-Ahead London was the Top London Bus Driver. Stephanie Maher of National Express Midlands was named Young Manager of the Year.

With eight including three golds, the Go-Ahead Group took away the largest number of awards, followed by Stagecoach and Reading Buses with five each, Arriva with four and National Express and RATP Dev with three each. National Express was also recognised as a partner with Transport for West Midlands (Centro) in two further awards.

The Award for Services to the Bus Industry went to Ian Morgan, deputy chairman of trentbarton owner Wellglade and chairman of the industry trade association, the Confederation of Passenger Transport since 2011. Ian was recognised for the contribution he has made to the industry during his 44 year career to date.

In addition to the UK Bus Awards themselves, the ROSCO Safe Driving Award was presented to Raymond Clements of Stagecoach London and awards for overcoming adversity were given to Stagecoach East Scotland for their revised routes following the closure of the Forth Road Bridge and Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire for their diversionary route to maintain services following storm Desmond.
