TfGM Chief appointed Deputy Lieutenant

Dr Jon Lamonte, Chief Executive of Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), had his contribution to public life recognized. He has pledged to support local communities across Greater Manchester in his new role as Deputy Lieutenant. Jon was awarded the honour by the Lord Lieutenant Warren Smith, and will serve alongside 88 fellow deputies. Deputy Lieutenants are selected for their valuable contribution to the community. They agree to help support the work of the Lord Lieutenant, the Queen’s representative in Greater Manchester, until the age of 75. Dr Lamonte joined TfGM in January 2013 from his role as CEO of Tube Lines, a subsidiary company of TfL.

Dr Lamonte said, ‘It’s an enormous honour and privilege to be invited to serve my adopted home of Greater Manchester. Having long been a supporter of the voluntary sector, primarily through cadet forces and veterans groups, I hope I can make a contribution to the vibrant life of this amazing place. The day job will always come first but I look forward to taking an active role in supporting the Lord Lieutenant in my spare time and making a positive difference in Greater Manchester.’
