Stagecoach’s £80m bus investment

Stagecoach Group today is investing over £80m in new buses and coaches for services in the UK and mainland Europe. A new fleet of nearly 470 vehicles, many equipped with free Wi-Fi and all with CCTV, will be introduced in the 2015-16 financial year. More than £75m of that investment will be made in the company’s regional networks in England, Scotland and Wales. There is also a £2.7m order for new buses for London, as well as £6.9m of new coaches for the company’s megabus.com service in the UK and Europe. The latest announcement takes the Group’s total orders for its regional bus operations in the UK to around £630m in the last eight years. It has also ordered over £20m of new coaches for megabus.com services in mainland Europe as well as £105m of new vehicles for its London bus operations since buying the business in 2010. The latest orders follow an annual competitive tendering process and the first of the new vehicles will be delivered from Spring 2015.

For Stagecoach’s UK regional operations are: 50 ADL Enviro400 Scanias, 30 ADL MMC E400 Scania double deckers, 57 ADL MMC E400 double deckers, ten Wrightbus Eclipse Volvo single deckers, 28 ADL Enviro300 Scania single deckers, 89 ADL Enviro300 single deckers, 33 ADL MMC E200 11.9m midibuses, 27 ADL Enviro200 midibuses, 23 ADL MMC E200 10.8m midibuses, 42 Optare Solos, 23 Optare Solo Slimlines, 12 12.5m Volvo Plaxton Elites and 44 15m Volvo Plaxton Elite i’s (eight of which will be left hand drive). Of the local bus order, 93 will be manufactured to the company’s Gold specification. For Stagecoach’s London operations, it has ordered seven ADL MMC E400 double-deckers and eight 10.8m ADL MMC E200 midibuses. All of the new vehicles meet Euro5 or Euro6 standards. These orders will ensure Stagecoach’s entire single deck fleet meets the UK Disability Discrimination Act deadline later this calendar year. The Group remains on track to meet the deadlines for other vehicle types over coming years.

The order also includes a number of suppliers, including: Synectics Ltd (CCTV), Icomera (Wi-Fi), Chapman Drivers Seating Ltd, Lazzerini seats, Fainsa Spain for coach seats, Hanover Displays destination equipment, PLS wheelchair lifts and Shades Technics Ltd for coach toilets.
