Stagecoach signs RNIB charter

Stagecoach’s UK Bus division has signed a charter, produced with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), to deliver a better service to customers with sight loss. In the document, the operator has made a series of pledges to help improve the accessibility of its local bus services, as well as raising awareness among employees of the need to understand the practical issues faced by blind and partially sighted customers.

Principles of the charter include: drivers stopping for passengers waiting at designated stops and assisting blind and partially sighted people; drivers advising the blind and partially sighted of their destination if there are no audio announcements; conducting a review of timetables and bus stop information with blind and partially sighted; new sight loss awareness training for staff; carrying out awareness campaigns of the importance of priority seating for disabled; and seeking to improve the way sound can be heard through the driver protection screen and, where possible, removing it.
