Stagecoach invests over £2.5m in Winchester

Stagecoach has invested over £2.5m in new ADL Enviro200 MMC (Major Model Change) buses for Winchester. The vehicles will be used to operate on routes 1, 3, 5 and Spring, serving the city centre. The network will be re-branded with a fresh theme inspired by King Alfred the Great. In addition to the customary CCTV and GPS tracking technology, the buses have been customised with USB charge ports and Wi-Fi. The new fleet will go into service on 27 October, following the addition of evening services on the routes on 25 October. Stagecoach welcomed over 4.3m passengers aboard their Winchester buses last year, of those, 70% were tourists, commuters and students.

MD, Michael Watson, said, ‘We are proud to announce this investment in new buses and the investment in the fleet and evening gives something back to our many bus users in Winchester and we hope to encourage even more people to use the bus further into the evening.’
