Southdown PSV splits

Established bus operator and dealer, Southdown PSV, has decided to split the two areas of its business. Founding Director, Steve Swain, has resigned as MD and will take the bus dealership with him. From 1 September he will trade as Chartwell Bus and Coach Sales Ltd. The other founding Director, FD, Peter Larking, together with Operations Director, Gary Wood, remain with the operational side of Southdown. From September the East Surrey network will be a mainly commercial operation requiring additional buses, therefore three new Scania based ADL Enviro400s have been purchased.

Steve Swain said, ‘I am immensely proud of what we have achieved since we started in 2002 with one MCW Metrobus. We now have 30 vehicles with a great team of drivers, engineers and managers that makes Southdown the quality bus operator it is and I wish the company every success for the future. Vehicle sales has always been my passion and my area of expertise and I look forward to assisting bus and coach operators with their fleet acquisitions and disposals.’

Commenting on how the split will affect the two businesses, Steve said, ‘It will not be too different to how things are now. Although my office will not be based here, I will be relocating to my home town, an agreement is in place to use the large yard currently used at Southdown. It is close to the airport, which is good because we sell a lot to Scottish and Irish customers. Nothing will really change but the name. Chartwell will be the new name as far as bus sales at Southdown.’

Steve also mentioned the possibility of getting back into coach sales. He can be contacted on 01342 711840 or 07950 616 106.
