Sheffield’s new bus/tram ticket

A new ticket offering discounted travel for children on Sheffield’s bus and tram network has been launched. Costing £2 a day, the new Citywide Child – Day ticket is on sale from 1 to 31 August 2013. Introduced and spearheaded by Travel South Yorkshire as part of the TravelMaster scheme, it is available for five to 15 year olds to buy on board most buses and trams in the city. It is very much supported by Sheffield Bus Partnership, which consists of First South Yorkshire, Stagecoach in Sheffield, Sheffield Community Transport, Sheffield City Council and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE). Since it was launched in October 2012, the voluntary partnership has seen a more simple, flexible and convenient bus network for the area. It has also reduced congestion and duplication on key routes, significantly improved punctuality and customer satisfaction, as well as reduced fares.

TravelMaster Chairman, Duncan Roberts, said, ‘Young people are the adult passengers of tomorrow and it is important that public transport remains affordable to them. I very much hope that this experimental TravelMaster product encourages enough additional travel to prove it could be sustainable in the future.’
