NatEx ups funding for youngsters

National Express Foundation has increased the amount of funding it provides by 50%. Since its launch in 2012, the Foundation has awarded hundreds of thousands of pounds which has helped over 8,000 young people enjoy exciting and engaging activities and to continue with their education. This year it will be providing £150,000. It provides grants of £2,500 or £5,000 to support local community groups that will provide positive and engaging activities for young people in deprived areas.

Scania celebrates 125 years

Scania is celebrating 125 years of business this year. It has charted its history, starting from its founding as a privately owned wagon building company in 1891, on its website www.scania.com/group/en/

More New Routemasters to be ordered?….

More New Routemasters could be ordered for London’s streets. MD of Surface Transport at TfL, Leon Daniels, said the TfL Board has given financial authority for the purchase of up to 195 New Routemasters. However, at the time of going to press, no deal has been signed or agreed with Wrightbus, the vehicle’s manufacturer.

…and 68 next for New Routemaster

TfL’s 68 bus route is the latest to be served by New Routemasters. Run by Go-Ahead, it serves West Norwood via Euston, Russell Square, Holborn, Aldwych, Waterloo, Elephant & Castle, Camberwell, Herne Hill and Tulse Hill. The service will be running entirely with New Routemasters by the end of April.

Eicher launches hybrid school bus

Eicher Trucks and Buses, an Indian joint venture between Eicher Motors and Volvo Group, has launched the Eicher Skyline Pro School Bus. This is a hybrid school bus developed and manufactured at the VE Commercial Vehicles Pithampur plant in Indore. It is fitted with a diesel electric hybrid system designed to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency.  It has state of the art electronic safety features including vehicle tracking, geo-fencing, a camera and student ridership status available to the parents together with a fire detection/suppression system and advanced telematics.

Oxford Road transformation

Oxford Road in Manchester is about to be transformed as the next stage of the city’s bus priority package gets underway. The redevelopment of what was described as one of Europe’s busiest bus corridors will see it transformed into a ‘pedestrian friendly’ boulevard giving priority to buses and bikes. It will feature new cycle lanes, which separate cyclists from buses. The change is intended to deliver faster bus journeys and ensure services are more punctual and reliable.
