Micro-hybrid retrofit buses named after locals

Travel de Courcey has launched 21 buses retrofitted with micro-hybrid systems onto its urban route network in Coventry. The technology was installed in the MCV Evolution bodied MAN vehicles following a £404,000 grant from the DfT Clean Vehicle Technology Fund after an application submitted by Centro, the delivery arm of the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority. The vehicles have been fitted with Eminox SCRT systems and Avid eFan micro-hybrid engine technology which can reduce emissions by more than 90%. 12 of them have been named after ‘local heroes’, including charity fundraiser Heather Lawrence, music teacher Sarah Spurr and bus driver Arthur Bradley, who rescued a drowning boy from a canal.

Chief Executive of Travel de Courcey, Adrian de Courcey, said, ‘We are very pleased to be able to launch these vehicles which will be amongst the most environmentally friendly vehicles operating within Coventry and the West Midlands. It is great that we are able to recognise the efforts of local heroes who have made a significant contribution to their local communities by naming many of the buses after a local hero.’
