McGill’s ‘seriously considering’ Malta

Following the news that Arriva is to pull out of operating bus services in Malta and Gozo, it has been announced that Greenock based McGill’s is ‘seriously considering’ a bid to run the network. As yet, there has been no expression of interest issued by the Maltese government to define the shape of the tender and it will not be until one is published that McGill’s will have something on which to base a decision to bid. So long as the Maltese government is realistic in its expectations, McGill’s will tender for the contract. MD at McGill’s, Ralph Roberts, is leading the project and recently visited the island. He has formed a consortium with ‘very prominent individuals and companies’ in Malta to take the operator’s plans forward. Ralph Roberts was previously a director at Arriva Scotland and under his management, McGill’s fleet and services have grown dramatically.
