Irizar zero emission electrics for Barcelona

Two Irizar i2e electric buses are to be trialled by Barcelona Metropolitan Transport (TMB) as part of the ZeEUS project, a series of intensive tests of the latest generation electric and hybrid buses set to take place in eight cities.

The agreement with TMB includes the transfer and purchase of these two units after the trial period has finished.

Irizar’s i2e is the first urban bus the manufacturer has fully developed with its own technology. According to the manufacturer, five hours of charging guarantees between 14 and 16 hours of driving in dense urban and interurban working conditions, with an average speed of 17km/h. Similar figures have been recorded in trials of the vehicle in San Sebastian. To improve energy consumption, it uses the Eco Assist system that helps the driver in real time and contributes to optimising the vehicle energy consumption and increasing its range. Irizar say it is the first electric bus on the market that complies with the R.66 rollover safety norm.
