‘Good month’ for registrations

Bus and coach registrations rose 20.3% in July, with 605 registrations, taking rolling year volumes up 5.4% to 7,943 units. Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) Chief Executive, Mike Hawes, said, ‘July proved a good month for the bus and coach market, with registrations posting a 20.3% growth. The strong showing was thanks to a 69.8% rise in purpose built buses, which offset a 27.4% fall in coach registrations. The overall picture for buses and coaches remains positive, with the past 12 months showing a 14.5% growth.’

There were 304 purpose built buses registered in July, up 69.8% from the same month last year. The rolling year total for this was 2,776, up 6.4%. Purpose built coach registrations fell 27.4% to 61, with a rolling year figure of 887, up 18.7%. Converted bus registrations numbered 240, a 0% change on last month, making for a rolling year total of 4,280, up 19.5%.

Registrations by marque (with July 2013’s figures in brackets) were: ADL 125 (67), Volvo Bus 58 (39), Wrightbus 58 (23), Scania 16 (26), Optare 41 (31), VDL 2 (9), Van Hool 11 (7), Mercedes-Benz (excluding Setra) 19 (16), Neoplan 3 (4), Setra 0 (25), other imports 3 (2), Irizar 2 (3), King Long 8 (4), MAN (excluding Neoplan) 10 (0), Iris Bus 3 (7) and Yutong 6 (0).
