Cut DBS clearance backlog, urges GMB

Efforts to reduce the backlog of people waiting for Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance have been called for by trade union GMB. DBS clearance is required for anyone working with children and vulnerable adults, including PCV drivers working on school contracts. GMB says that allowing this backlog to develop is ‘inexcusable’ on the part of the Metropolitan Police and police departments across the country, claiming it is stopping people getting work. The union is calling on the Metropolitan Police Commissioner to fill vacancies in the part of the service dealing with enquiries to speed up the process.
