ComfortDelGro buys New Adventure Travel

ComfortDelGro Corporation has acquired south Wales based New Adventure Travel (NAT Group) for £13.4m.

The acquisition is significant, as it is ComfortDelGro’s first acquisition of its bus operations outside of London. In the capital, its wholly-owned subsidiary, Metroline Ltd, is the second largest public scheduled bus operator, with a fleet of 1,700 vehicles. The Singapore based transport giant already has inter-city express and executive coach operations outside London.

ComfortDelGro MD/Group CEO, Yang Ban Seng, said: “We have been operating bus and coach services across the UK and Ireland for close to two decades. With this addition of NAT Group, we are broadening our footprint into Wales, and expanding the bus operations outside of London which has always been our strategic intent. We look forward to serving the people of South Wales and introducing new and improved services to meet their travel needs.”

MD of NAT Group, Kevyn Jones, said there are to be no management changes as a result of the take-over. Kevyn said: “Following a decade of growing this business, we are delighted it has now become part of the ComfortDelGro Group. We feel their expertise and financial strength will give us a great platform to continue to grow, improve and develop public transport in south Wales. It’s very much business as usual, that’s what we said to the staff and customers.”

NAT Group currently operates a fleet of 117 buses and coaches across four depots in Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Pontypridd. Based near the city centre of Cardiff, it operates commercial and contracted scheduled bus services. It has a fleet of coaches, which operates on local contracts, as well as UK and European private hire and holiday work. It also offers transport services to professional sports teams including Swansea City Football Club, Newport County Team and Supporters and Cardiff City Supporters.

ComfortDelGro is considered one of the world’s largest land transport companies with a total fleet size of over 43,500 buses, taxis and rental vehicles. Headquartered in Singapore, the Group also has operations in China, Ireland, Australia, Vietnam and Malaysia. Currently, overseas ventures account for 44.8% of Group operating profit.

ComfortDelGro operates scheduled bus, coach, taxi radio circuit and private hire services in the UK, including Metroline.
