Coach industry rallies for Grenfell victims

The coach industry is being asked to help the victims, emergency services and volunteers of the Grenfell tower block fire with a special event.

Bob Harrington, of Harrington’s Vintage Coaches, launched an appeal to offer the victims and others a free day trip in recognition of the ordeal they have been through. He has already had pledges of support from Clarkes of London and other coach operators.

“I think we were all moved by the scale and horror of what the residents have been through,” said Bob. “At the moment, the relief effort and counselling are still the priority, but I thought the industry would like to provide a little sunshine for the victims, many of whom are now homeless.”

Bob is asking for pledges of coaches, with a focus on running day trips in August, before school term starts: “I fully understand that operators will be busy in August, so any pledge will be gratefully received. Clearly, the trips need to begin in north-west London or pick-ups be easily accessible by public transport.”

In addition, Bob is looking for pledges of support from southern seaside towns, easily accessible in a day from London.
