Buses named after Rovers ‘legends’

Transdev owned Lancashire United has named four of its buses after Blackburn Rovers ‘legends’. Former club owner Jack Walker, record goal scorer Simon Garner, Blackburn and England player Bryan Douglas and midfielder Tugay Kerimoglu have been chosen for the buses by fans. The vehicles will operate on service 1, which passes Ewood Park, the team’s home ground, up to every seven minutes on its way between Blackburn and Darwen. Bryan Douglas and Simon Garner visited the stadium recently to see their namesake buses unveiled. Bryan, now aged 81, worked on the buses in Blackburn when he was 15.

Number 1875 in Lancashire United’s fleet, representing the year that Rovers were formed, will be the bus named after the late Blackburn born steel magnate come owner, Jack Walker. Back in December the operator unveiled the Alan Shearer bus. The operator is also offering Blackburn fans a special discounted bus ticket giving them unlimited travel on its Lancashire United buses on all home match days until the end of the season.

CEO at Transdev, Alex Hornby, said, ‘The feedback from passengers and football fans alike has shown what an appetite there was for the club’s legends to be recognised in such a way. We’re very pleased with the response we’ve received and are delighted we’re able to name the buses after these footballing greats.’
