Annual test pass rates continue to improve

Figures released by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) as part of their annual vehicle testing and enforcement statistics, show first time pass rates for bus and truck annual tests have increased for the third year running. Overall large vehicle first time pass rate has increased each year from 80.2% in 2012/13 to 81.0% in 2013/14 and 82.4% in 2014/15. Supporting these statistics, prohibition rates for mechanical checks at roadside stops have decreased from 37.7% in 2013/14 to 35.7% in 2014/15.

Chief executive DVSA, Paul Satoor, said, ‘It is encouraging to see that the first time pass rate at annual test has increased again. Owners and drivers in Great Britain clearly recognise the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, helping to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and contributing to the safety of all road users. We will continue to work with the industry to target the small minority of operators and drivers who fail to meet roadworthiness standards.’
