18 ADLs for Arriva Southend

Arriva has introduced 18 ADL Enviro400s to Southend, representing an investment of £3.8m. The vehicles have free 4G Wi-Fi, USB charging points and 73 seats upholstered in E-Leather. They will run between Rayleigh, Thundersley, Hadleigh, Leigh, Westcliff, Southend, Southchurch, Bournes Green, Thorpe Bay and Shoeburyness. They feature ‘stop-start’ technology that reduces fuel consumption by stopping the engine when the bus is stationary and then re-starting it when it is ready to pull away from bus stops or traffic lights. They were officially launched at an event held at the Southend depot, followed by a ride to the Cliffs Pavilion. Following the official launch, one of the buses was on display in Southend town centre where Arriva mascot, Alfie, and juggling act, The Man With Big Balls, entertained the crowds. Rossi Ice Cream provided tubs of Arriva ice cream and goody bags were also handed out.

Arriva’s General Manager for Southend, Ant Comber, said, ‘Travelling by bus will now be a much more luxurious and convenient experience. USB charging points built into seats mean you can check emails, catch up with friends or simply charge your phone or tablet. This is a huge investment for the area and we are very proud to be bringing such a quality service to Southend.’
